My name is Alison. I do enjoy my patchwork. Love rummaging in thrift type shops. Love it better still when I find something vintage that I like. The shop is starting to become home to a few of these pieces.

Shall we do the ironing!

Have a book called The Australian Womans Diary 1994 which quotes from different magazines and articles of the 1800 and 1900's.
Love the following that was written by Joan Kyffin Willington called
Maisie: Her life in her letters from 1898 to 1902.

"A Beastly Job
Spent the morning ironing. I ironed the whole of my tussore frock. All the chiffon and whole skirt and bodice and even the three little frills of ribbon round the bottom of the skirt - you can have no idea of the tremendous amount of work in such an undertaking. It is beautifully clean still, so the ironing has made it look as good as new and put such a gloss on it and not a crease anywhere.
Then I did the same thing to my garden party frock and although it did not need so much doing I had to be still more careful because it is such a delicate material.
Then I pressed my blue cloth skirt - a beastly job - then ironed out two blouses that I had cruelly crushed before they were half dirty and finished up with a few ribbons and things like that.
Ironing is tremendously hard work and fearfully tiring.
After lunch I dressed for the mayoress's garden party. I wore my newly altered freshly ironed dear little garden party frock and my grey hat with real roses to match the frock."

What a wonderful insight into ironing. My Australian Womans Diary contains many of these treasures that I will write about more often.

Visiting Cental Coast Quilters

We all love going on bus trips and this bus load of 50 ladies from the Central Coast did smile a lot. Of course the fabric helped.
It was a pleasure to have such a friendly group visit Rags to Riches.
They then went on to visit the vineyards and surrounding area - more shops there as well!! Isn't there an advert that says "spend- spend- spend" I don't think these quilters went home with excess funds.

What about the vase!

I was given these beautiful flowers for the shop last week and had to take a picture. Beautiful. I was told what they are called but have forgotten.
But what about my $2.00 vase. Did the job perfectly.
It was covered in dust when I found it and didn't look like much. Just goes to show what a good clean can do.
